Traveling Construction Materials Technician II
Terracon is inviting applications for the Traveling Construction Materials Technician II position. This role involves 100 % travel across the Southeast division, including Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and coastal Georgia.
Role SummaryThis position requires a travel‑heavy field technician who works on high‑profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and other infrastructure. The successful candidate will perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials, maintain equipment, and prepare detailed reports.
General Responsibilities- Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
- Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding site conditions, project requirements, and testing results.
- Transport material samples to the laboratory for analysis.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Adhere to strict safety standards and report any safety issues.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform tests, observations, and inspections per training and procedures.
- Document findings and results clearly.
- Analyze data for accuracy before submitting to the Project Manager.
- Assist higher‑level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and calibration.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow all safety rules and conduct pre‑task planning.
- Ensure quality standards are met on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Experience with a laptop, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification in at least one of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Certificate in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Completion of related internal safety certifications.
- Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
- NICET Level II in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in categories such as Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
- American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing.
- Other national, regional, state, and local material‑related certifications, if appropriate for the role.
Remote‑only. Salary range: $19.50–$27.50 per hour, adjustable by location and experience.
