Job SummaryGas Technologist supports design, coordination, and documentation for natural gas distribution, transmission, and storage projects. Provides technical support, performs calculations, reviews data, implements process improvements, coordinates with other departments, prepares design drawings, and maintains reports and system records.
Responsibilities- Assist in mathematical and analytical calculations and research for engineering support.
- Gather, compile, review, and analyze information and data for engineering tasks.
- Develop and implement process improvements.
- Coordinate and act as liaison with other departments or external agencies.
- Assist in preparing design drawings and documents under the direction of an engineer.
- Support project coordination activities.
- Create and maintain reports, system records, and database information.
- Experience Level I – High school diploma/GED and 4 years of experience or Associate’s with 0‑2 years.
- Experience Level II – High school diploma/GED and 8 years of experience or Associate’s with 4+ years.
- Experience Level III – High school diploma/GED and 12 years of experience or Associate’s with 8+ years.
- Plan, coordinate, and design installation and repair of gas distribution mains and service lines.
- Interpret blueprints and drawings; ensure compliance with company standards and DOT requirements.
- Prepare detailed field drawings and accurate records of inspection activities.
- Create construction sketches of pipe, valves, and fittings relative to structures, property lines, and pipe cover.
- Assure permits are approved prior to construction.
- Coordinate construction activities with landowners, builders, developers, state DOT, and regulatory agencies.
- Perform technical computations and load studies; draft technical drawings and reports.
- Measure and collect field information from field measurements, tax maps, and scaling from drawings.
- Plan and execute detailed work order tasks; create encroachment permits.
- Assist engineers, sales, and other specialists as directed; adhere to safety regulations.
- Available for emergency response as needed.
High school diploma accredited by a recognized accrediting council or GED with 4 years of related technical experience. Associates degree or other special certification with equivalent years of experience. An Associate’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering preferred but not required.
Licenses & CertificationsValid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
Working ConditionsCold, heat, outdoor environment, and travel up to 25% of time.
