Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

Essential Functions
  • Supports implementation of curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Helps with the supervision of children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships, maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Help maintain program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records / documentations.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work Monday – Friday 8am – 12pm
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law (if the state sets requirements. The YMCA should establish minimum qualification standards if the state has no requirements).
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and assigned Redwoods trainings within 30 days of hire date.
  • Child Abuse Prevention: reports any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor; follows all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children; reports any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor; completes all child abuse prevention training as required.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl twist, bend; and talk to hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
