Food Clerk-Cashier

Part Time – Hourly

• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using an electronic cash register, scanner, and scale
• Clean register area by sweeping floors and maintaining registers and scales
• Prevent loss of money and merchandise by careful product handling, accurate counting, and proper use of store procedures for coupons, WIC, vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards
• Ensure safety of self, customers, and co‑workers by following store safety rules and notifying a supervisor of hazards
• Bag customer purchases quickly and correctly
• Understand the operation, safety requirements, and restraints of the electronic cash register, scanner, scale, and intercom system
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substitute for absent workers, and perform any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers

Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front‑End Manager or Store Manager.

• Excellent customer service skills
• Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in a related field or industry

• Stand for a minimum of 4 hours
• Move a maximum of 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches
• Move a maximum of 40 lbs. up to 15 feet
• Pick up items from floor, case, shelf, or cart
• Retrieve merchandise from the top of grocery shelves, approximately 84 inches from the floor
• Bend and twist at the waist while cleaning, moving/removing merchandise, and loading/unloading merchandise

Inside work with transitions of heat, cold, humidity, and dust from the opening of store entrance and exit doors.
