Summary

The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS) is hiring for one Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse position.

Preferred Experience:

5-7 years experience in one or more of the following categories:
Primary Care, Emergency Department, Home Health or Medical Surgical.

• Education:
  
  Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed
• Exceptions:
  Military service health care education or training accepted by licensing body
• Current GS‑0620 LPN/LVN employee of the Veterans Health Administration who was converted under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) or 38 U.S.C. 7405
• License granted by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school
• Licensure:
  Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a US state, territory, or Commonwealth

• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems
• Works with RN and/or MD/DO to orient/train less experienced LPN/LVN and nursing assistants
• Provides effective education to patients and families regarding disease processes, medication, and treatment regimes
• Serves as a responsible member of the nursing team and interacts appropriately with patients, families, and support personnel, exhibiting customer‑service standards
• Knowledge and skill in preparing, administering, and documenting common medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous) as permitted by policies
• Ability to recognize and act on emergency situations, seek assistance, and assist in resuscitation procedures
• Recognizes and reports equipment failures, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies
• Performs under general supervision of RN or MD/DO, with broad knowledge of practical nursing procedures
• Involved in complex diagnostic tests or specialized procedures, assisting and preparing patients, handling instruments, and monitoring conditions
• Serves as a preceptor for less experienced staff on complex procedures
• Actively seeks educational opportunities and shares new knowledge with staff
• The full performance level for this vacancy is GS‑06; selection grade range GS‑03 to GS‑06

• Perform assigned duties to promote quality health care, outstanding customer service, and a veteran‑centered environment under guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee
• Carry out technical competencies and skill requirements for nursing tasks, including medication administration and treatment of variable patient populations
• Provide accurate documentation of patient responses to medication and report changes to RN or MD/DO
• Recognize and respond to emergency situations, initiating appropriate interventions
• Use judgment to select appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments
• Establish constructive relationships with patients and families, promoting communication and respect for privacy and dignity
• Incorporate customer‑service standards into all interactions with patients, families, and external customers
• Support complex diagnostic tests and specialized procedures by preparing patients, assisting examinations, handling instruments, and monitoring conditions
• Preceptor for less experienced LPN/LVN or NAs/HTs on support duties for specialized tests/procedures
• Seek continuous educational opportunities to advance nursing practice and share knowledge with staff
• Work schedule:
  
  Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm
• Competitive salary with regular increases; higher step rates may apply for unique qualifications
