An employee in this class performs public safety work in the protection of lives and property through controlling, preventing and extinguishing fires, maintaining a state of preparedness and keeping equipment and apparatus for fire control in sound operating condition. Work is performed under immediate supervision.

• Responds to fire alarms as member of fire company, lays hose, connects nozzles, directs water streams, climbs ladders, operates pumps; removes persons from danger; administers first aid.
• Participates in training programs; checks and services equipment; participates in fire safety inspections and public education activities; participates in maintaining operating records.
• Assists in maintenance of fire station, equipment and apparatus; maintains personal equipment in state of readiness.

• Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
• Must be between the ages of 21 and 45 inclusive.

• Oral and written tests prepared for this position class; test of physical agility, health and character as established by the Department in cooperation with the Human Resources Department.

This classification is a “safety sensitive” position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a “safety sensitive” classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening.

Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
