Overview
Plan and coordinate all religious programming for a multi-level correctional facility including service scheduling and supervision; volunteer recruitment, training and supervision; religious special event planning, enabling and supervision; pastoral counseling; supervision of religious purchases and orders, identifying appropriate religious vendors, and serving as a religious resource for staff. This position is the recognized resource for pastoral, religious, and spiritual needs of the inmate population.
This position requires working some evenings and on Sundays. The facility is within the secure perimeter of a multi-level correctional facility housing 1,224 male prisoners.
- Plan and coordinate all religious programming for the facility, including service scheduling and supervision.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
- Plan and supervise religious special events; enable and supervise religious activities as appropriate.
- Provide pastoral counseling and serve as a religious resource for staff and inmates.
- Oversee religious purchases and orders; identify appropriate religious vendors.
- Serve as the recognized resource for pastoral, religious, and spiritual needs of the inmate population.
- Education:
Possession of a bachelor0s degree in religion, theology, divinity, or in an area of human services such as guidance and counseling, social work, criminal justice, etc. - Experience:
Three years of professional experience as a religious leader in a community or institutional setting equivalent to an Institution Chaplain, including one year equivalent to an Institution Chaplain P11. Possession of an associate0;s degree in religious studies or an area of human services and two years (4,160 hours) of experience performing religious services (e.g., marriages, burials, baptisms) may substitute for the education requirement. - Certification or endorsement by the recognized endorsing body of the religious faith.
- Certain positions may require credentials in a particular religious faith.

New hires to the MDOC, including returning employees after more than two years away, will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) consisting of 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on offender contact level and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their NCNET requirements.
