Role Summary

The Facilities Systems Technician is responsible for the overall maintenance, reliability, and compliance of facility systems and equipment. This role leads preventive maintenance activities, performs advanced troubleshooting and repairs, and supports regulatory compliance efforts. The position also assists with maintaining facility documentation, records, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Role Responsibilities
  • Ensure Facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are current, accurate, and maintained.
  • Assist with infrastructure and compliance documentation for all buildings, including documentation required to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Utilize the facilities ticketing system to track, prioritize, and resolve maintenance requests.
  • Support compliance with applicable regulatory laws and guidelines related to building operations; notify appropriate personnel of any facility discrepancies.
  • Assist in identifying potential safety hazards and coordinate remediation efforts with the Safety/Security Officer to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ensure facility records are properly maintained, retained, and archived in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery and business continuity activities.
  • Evaluate equipment failures and perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Order, manage, and maintain spare and replacement parts for facility equipment as needed.
  • Perform major and technical repairs for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Assist in the oversight of facility expansions, utilizing quality controls and data to support decision‑making.
  • Support facilities‑related contract evaluation and decision‑making.
  • Assist with preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance activities for all facility equipment.
  • Perform all duties in alignment with the corporation’s mission, values, and safety standards.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and special projects as required.
Role Requirements
  • Associate degree in a technical field or a minimum of two (2) years of building maintenance experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather is needed.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with company leadership, engineering, construction, and operations personnel.
  • Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Familiarity with Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Ability to follow, implement, and promote safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend facility and construction plans.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting capability, and teamwork skills.

Special Requirements
  • The person filling this position will spend time working in and around the facility, in the laboratory, and at a desk.
  • There will be potential exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be the potential to handle, and/or be exposed to, animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
  • Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators.
  • Physical activity includes lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping/pinching, standing, and ascending ladders without restriction.
  • Ability to travel between local sites ~ 40% of the time.
  • Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including but not limited to on‑rotation), evenings, weekends, extended shifts with short notice.
