Position Overview

The Physician Assistant (PA) provides high-quality, patient-centered primary care to individuals under the supervision of a licensed physician. Practicing within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the PA supports improved health outcomes through clinical excellence, patient education, and primary care, with a commitment to serving diverse populations in West Michigan. This role requires adherence to professional standards, licensing regulations, and internal policies, including ethical conduct and confidentiality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and obtain patient histories.
  • Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests such as lab work, imaging, and EKGs.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions according to evidence-based practice.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures including injections, wound care, immunizations, suturing, and infection management.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans; prescribe medications per licensure and scope of practice.
  • Provide patient and family education on health maintenance, disease prevention, and therapeutic regimens.
  • Document all patient interactions and care provided accurately in the EMR system.
  • Refer patients to specialists or other providers as medically indicated.
  • Participate in quality assurance and peer review activities.
  • Attend clinical meetings and contribute to department and agency goals.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with patients, families, and staff.
  • Support compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational standards.

Education and Licensure

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification.
  • Current DEA registration (or eligible to obtain).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS preferred.
  • Completion of required Continuing Medical Education (CME) for licensure and credentialing.
