Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer and in conjunction with the Clinical Director, the Optometrist diagnoses, manages and treats conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system. The role involves examining eyes and visual systems, diagnosing problems or impairments, prescribing corrective lenses, providing treatment, and prescribing therapeutic drugs as needed. Care is provided to individuals and families regardless of age, race, or sex.
EssentialJob Functions
- Conduct eye exams and vision tests using optometric equipment and interpret diagnostic results.
- Diagnose and treat ocular disease.
- Prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
- Prescribe medications, remove foreign bodies, analyze test results, and develop treatment plans.
- Recommend appropriate patient follow‑up and care options.
- Educate patients on proper eye‑care techniques.
- Answer questions and provide advice regarding vision and optical issues.
- Maintain accurate medical records for all patients.
- Refer patients to specialists as appropriate.
- Participate in specified health promotion, education, and prevention programs.
- Maintain a courteous, helpful, and conscientious attitude in interactions with co‑workers, patients, and families, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality.

Education, Licensing, Certificates And/Or Experience- Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an optometrist.
- Certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO).
- Current State of Michigan O.D. License and DEA License.
- Basic Life Support Certification (required).
