Position Summary

Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant Observation unit.

In this role, the successful candidate The Physician Assistant Service is dedicated to providing quality, professional, cost-effective health care to all patients  LICH, physician assistants (PA) practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician. The PA shall be permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of training/skills delegated by the supervising physician or the patients physician that has been approved by the Credentials Committee and is within the scope of practice of the physician.

PAs provide care for in- and outpatients primarily in-house including, the Emergency Department, Pre-Admission Testing, the operating room, Employee Health, Psych Care, including pediatrics.

Job Responsibilities
  • Introduces/identifies self as a physician assistant
  • Performs initial assessment/history and physical examination
  • Orders and interprets tests/results (lab, radiol., ekg, etc.) based on patient need
  • Documents care in the chart in accordance with Hospital policy & procedure
  • Formulates diagnoses
  • Formulates and implements treatment plan
  • Consults with physician when required based on patient's condition
  • Reassesses patients
  • Orders, applies, removes, reapplies restraints
  • Provides emergency medical care including Code 64 management
  • Triages patients--ED only
  • Performs Trauma assessment/reassessment (Trauma Team only)
  • Legibly documents in patient chart, departmental forms, and any other Hospital forms all pertinent patient information following departmental and Hospital policies
  • Documents any patient or family education on the Hospital patient and family education form
  • All orders and entries dated and timed
  • Level of documentation matches severity of situation
  • Results of tests ordered documented
  • Procedure notes completed
  • Follow-up/consultation with physician documented
  • Verbal/telephone orders signed, dated, and timed by end of shift
  • Billing forms completed fully and submitted--house only
  • Discharge instructions written and given-ED only
  • Explains procedure to patient/family
  • Uses sterile technique
  • Performs procedures following accepted standards of care--IVs, foley cath, NGT, CVL removal, etc.
  • Suturing-technique, suture selection, etc.
  • Splinting-technique-ED only
  • Assists in surgery-technique-OR credential led only
  • Performs CAT scan/MRI injections
  • Demonstrates positive Service Excellence and effective communication skills, time management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrates the medical, technical, and personal skills to assess, reassess, & manage patients
  • Knows one s limitations and seeks help if needed
  • Demonstrates the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail
  • Works as a team member in a multidisciplinary manner
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and techniques in the field by reading appropriate journals, books and other literature and attending related seminars
  • Abides by all federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
