Tooling Technician – Project XYZ
PROJECTXYZ has a rare opening for a Tooling Technician in our manufacturing area where we provide prototype molds and parts to major OEM companies using world-class equipment and leading-edge technologies through stereolithography, selective laser sintering, vacuum casting, and other specialized processes.
As the Tooling Technician you will perform preventative maintenance on molds and manufacture spare or replacement parts with minimal supervision to ensure efficient operation, minimize downtime and meet quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Work with quality, maintenance, production staff or alone to repair molds as needed.
- Use TIG welder if and where needed to fix damaged areas.
- Troubleshoot and rebuild hot runner systems when necessary.
- Gain knowledge on determining what can and cannot be a quick fix.
- Work as a team with and for Production as support.
- Make parts for molds or other projects as needed.
- Tear down, clean, and lubricate molds, inspect all springs, pins, slides etc. for wear or damage on molds. Replace or repairs as needed.
- Data entry on repairs and PMs performed.
- Maintain tool room area.
- Perform after hours mold repairs as necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required with 12 years of Injection Molding / Die repair experience in a manufacturing setting or a two-year Industrial Machine Shop degree. Industrial Machine Shop experience in a manufacturing setting is highly preferred.
- Strong trouble shooting skills.
- Welding TIG.
- Strong problem solving skills
- Good oral communication and writing skills.
- Leadership abilities that includes strong Team Building experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Mold Polishing Skills (Class “A”).
- Understanding of Lean concepts and their applications.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Experience on all tool room equipment (mill, surface grinder).
- Familiarity with mold wiring.
- Experience with spotting & fitting of mold/die components.
- Working schedule Monday through Friday 11:00pm 7:30am.
- Employee is regularly required to safely and efficiently perform tasks in a fast paced working environment under minimal supervision.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to temperature, fumes and noise.
- Various physical demands; climbing, lifting, standing.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
