Mechanical Maintenance Operator - Melting & Casting — Montpelier, 1770 Bill Sharp Blvd, Muscatine, Iowa, United States of America. SSAB is a North American producer of steel plate and coil serving multiple markets. This position requires a strong mechanical maintenance background in heavy manufacturing and will operate on rotating shifts.

Job purpose

The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical maintenance background related to heavy manufacturing. This position will work rotating shifts.

• Perform the essential functions of a millwright with extensive welding applications
• Perform basic maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial environment
• Perform basic plumbing and pipe fitting skills (e.g., structural repairs to buildings, platforms, machinery, utility piping and structures at times in elevated positions)
• Perform maintenance engineering functions and repairs for all plant mechanical equipment
• Possess basic knowledge of industrial electricity and understanding of how PLCs interact with hydraulic systems and operators
• Install modifications to existing equipment as required
• Work in a team-oriented facility
• Assist in the development of solutions to operating problems and improvements to processes as required
• Perform administrative tasks as may be assigned from time to time

  High School diploma or equivalent GED or HSE

• Preferred Education: Associates degree or certificate in mechanical or electrical field

Experience

• Required Experience: Strong mechanical background; minimum of 2 years of heavy industrial experience

• Preferred Experience: Heavy industry mechanical experience with basic PLC/electrical understanding; strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; completion of Stick overhead 3G welding test; minimum Microsoft Office suite skills

• The employee will frequently be required to sit, walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Reach above shoulder level and below waist level
• Use both hands for grasping, fingering, gripping and feeling textures and temperatures
• Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
• Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods

• The employee will occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

• The position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities: close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; hearing in person, on the phone, and in group settings

• Extreme hot and cold conditions

• In confined areas, at heights, and around equipment in motion

• Full-time, hourly position eligible for overtime; rotating 12-hour swing shifts — days/nights, alternating weekends, some holidays
