Software Engineer – Open Stack
At Canonical we build the world’s most widely used open‑source operating system, Ubuntu, and the infrastructure that powers it. Our engineers work on open‑source projects such as Open Stack, Ceph, Kubernetes, and many more. We hire for a Software Engineer on our Open Stack Engineering team, building Charmed Open Stack and Ceph – a suite of Python‑based charms that deploy and manage Open Stack and Ceph across a variety of architectures.
Background& Opportunity
This role requires a Python developer who is passionate about automating infrastructure as code, working with a globally distributed team, and staying up to date with the software‑defined datacenter ecosystem. The position involves international travel several times a year, usually for one week at a time.
What you’ll do- Collaborate proactively with a distributed team
- Write high‑quality code to create new features and to debug issues
- Review code produced by other engineers
- Discuss ideas and collaborate on solutions
- Ensure the success of Open Stack and Ceph on multiple architectures
- Work from home with global travel 2–4 weeks for internal and external events

- You hold a Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
- You have experience with Python
- You have interest and experience with two or more of the following:
Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, Open Stack, Ceph, AI/ML, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Go, C, Postgre
SQL, Mongo, Debian packaging, scalable web services - You have experience with non‑x86 architectures (s390, arm
64, power, etc.) - You have experience with Open Stack, OVN, Openvswitch and related cloud technologies
