Overview
The Roads Design Engineer will be responsible for preparing detailed designs for road and highway projects in accordance with Oman standards and international guidelines. The role involves developing geometric designs, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, preparing technical documentation, and supporting project delivery through all design stages. The position suits an engineer with around 5 years of experience in road design and proficiency in relevant design software.
Responsibilities- Carry out detailed design of roads, highways, and associated infrastructure in line with Oman design standards and international codes.
- Prepare geometric designs, horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, pavement design, and road markings/signage layouts.
- Develop engineering drawings, design reports, BOQs, and technical specifications for tender and construction phases.
- Coordinate with survey, geotechnical, and drainage teams to integrate multidisciplinary inputs into road designs.
- Review traffic studies, geotechnical reports, and utility data to inform road design decisions.
- Conduct site visits to collect design inputs and validate design assumptions when required.
- Support senior engineers in design reviews, value engineering activities, and design optimization.
- Ensure all designs comply with local authority requirements, client specifications, and safety standards.
- Respond to technical queries from clients, contractors, and authorities during various project stages.
- Assist in obtaining approvals from relevant ministries and authorities in Oman.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in road and highway design, preferably within the GCC region.
- Good understanding of Oman design standards and familiarity with ROP, Ashghal, AASHTO, IRC, or BS guidelines.
- Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MX Roads / Open Roads, and related software.
- Solid knowledge of geometric design principles, pavement design, drainage basics, and traffic engineering fundamentals.
- Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- GCC experience and a valid driving license are advantageous.
- Professional development courses or memberships (ICE, ASCE, or equivalent) are a plus.
