As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will be responsible for providing professional grooming services to our valued customers  pets. With your expertise and attention to detail, you will ensure that each pet receives exceptional care, leaving them looking and feeling their best.

• Under moderate to limited supervision, perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, adhering to pet parent instructions, breed standards and company policies.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
• Prioritize the well-being and safety of every animal, monitor for signs of discomfort, illness or injury, and report concerns to pet owners and store management.
• Evaluate individual needs of each pet based on coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
• Interact professionally with pet parents, provide optimal customer service, address inquiries, offer grooming recommendations, and resolve concerns.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at-home care practices and products to promote overall well-being.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect and sanitize tools, perform cleaning duties in line with Petco hygiene policies.
• Ensure safety, quality and consistency by applying Petco grooming policies and standards.
• May train, support, and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
• Ability to solve problems independently with some guidance from leadership when necessary.
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity and ownership of the grooming role.
• Strong attention to detail and dedication to high grooming standards.
• Genuine passion for animals and a desire to build a career in grooming.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behaviors.
• Proficiency in breed-specific cuts, styling techniques and grooming standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

The majority of duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon. The role requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. May require climbing a two-step ladder and use of cleaning tools. A portion of time will be spent in direct contact with pet parents and their dogs; the rest with salon partners. The environment can be noisy and wet.
