Emergency Room (Full-time, Day Shift)
The Emergency Services Technician serves in a combination role and is competent to perform as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Telemetry Technician (TT) and a Unit Secretary (US) under the supervision of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, and/or physician in a fast-paced emergency department licensed under Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta (LLUMC-Murrieta). Demonstrates flexibility and readily accepts changing assignments and job duties at the beginning and throughout the shift as requested, e.g., Telemetry Technician, Unit Secretary, Patient Care Assistant.
Provides direct and indirect, age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care as directed and seeks information and clarification of duties throughout shift as necessary. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia and recognition course within six months of hire.
- Completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or completion of School of Nursing fundamentals required.
- Completion of Emergency Medical Technician program may be considered in lieu of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Minimum of six months experience as paramedic transport, telemetry technician, unit secretary or patient care assistant preferred.
- Demonstrates competencies in fundamentals of patient care and knowledge of scope of practice for unlicensed healthcare team members.
- Able to read, write legibly and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality.
- Proficient with computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Outlook, electronic medical record, event reporting system).
- Troubleshoots patient care equipment; performs basic non-licensed patient care activities.
- Comprehends and follows instructions; communicates positively, effectively and professionally with others.
- Acts with assertiveness and consistency in following policies; works calmly under pressure; collaborates; accepts direction; thinks critically and uses good judgment.
- Works with minimal supervision; performs basic math functions; manages multiple assignments; organizes and prioritizes workload; problem solves; recalls information with accuracy.
- Pay attention to detail; distinguishes colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hears and sees adequately to perform duties; discerns temperature variances through touch.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Emergency Medical Technician preferred.
