Job Summary: The Physical Therapy Assistant performs services that are planned, delegated, and supervised by the Physical Therapist. Assists patients in preventing disability and promotes maximal participation and responsibility in recovery following disease, injury, surgery, or loss of a body part. Provides care according to department policies and treatment techniques aligned with discipline-specific practice acts. Services are provided under physician's orders.
Fosters a constructive, supportive, and professional environment. Understands economic constraints and practices resource conservation. Performs additional duties as needed.
Education and Experience: An Associate's Degree in Physical Therapy Assistance from an accredited program or passing the Physical Therapy Assistant Exam approved by the Physical Therapy Board of California is required. Preferably, candidates will have at least one year of recent experience in an acute care or rehabilitation setting.
Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of necessary equipment, assessment tools, and Home Medical Equipment (HME). Familiar with documentation for regulatory compliance. Able to read, write legibly, and communicate effectively in English (Spanish preferred). Proficient in using computers and relevant software. Capable of troubleshooting and calibrating patient care equipment. Demonstrates positive, professional communication; enforces policies assertively; works calmly under pressure; collaborates well; thinks critically;
works independently; performs basic math; manages multiple tasks; problem-solves; organizes workload; recalls information accurately; and pays close attention to detail. Ability to distinguish colors and smells as needed for patient care, hear sufficiently for conversation and alarms, see adequately for reading and documentation, and discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: Current license from the Physical Therapy Board of California and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association are required.
