Under the supervision of the Director of Construction & Trades, the Plumber, Supervisor is responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of all college buildings, and other related work. Supervise, train, and direct the other Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) plumbers. Attend weekly meetings, assign work orders, order parts and supplies. Work with the other SLCC plumbers to complete work orders and plumbing maintenance items.
Perform preventive maintenance on fixtures such as auguring clogged drain lines, repairing leaking faucets, and replacing worn or bad fixtures, etc. Troubleshoot and maintain electronic circuit boards on fixtures. Read meters and report water usage. Install and maintain pipes and fittings including assembly, cutting, threading, and Victaulic grooving to accomplish goals. Perform plumbing, heating and pipe fitting repair and replacement including high pressure steam systems, hot water heating systems, drainage systems, etc.
Maintain culinary water systems and test and repair backflow prevention devices. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies including ordering replacement materials, filling out associated forms, and repairing damaged or broken equipment etc. Engineer methods of repair, computer entry of time records, and daily processing of work orders on the computer.
Ability and willingness to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed to cover emergency plumbing issues.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Document employee activities for job performance tracking.
- Collaborate with Director to hire staff by being the chair on hiring committee.
- Supervise day-to-day operations of the plumbers.
- Assist Director in yearly performance evaluations of employees and meet with them quarterly to review tasks.
- Train other plumbers and staff in preventative maintenance, repair, and care of plumbing systems.
- Train and motivate other plumbers and provide them with professional development opportunities.
- Use the CMMS work order system and assign work orders to other plumbers for all campuses for PM’s and regular work.
- Follow through with technicians to verify work has been complete and work orders closed out properly.
- Ensure all staff enters all their time and work in CMMS according to department requirements.
- Approve in Banner and ensure campus has proper coverage while minimizing overtime.
- Monitor and manage budget, pay invoices, setup, and manage yearly purchase orders and contracts.
- Provide estimates, project design reviews, and progress inspections during construction.
- Perform other computer functions such as retrieval of college e-mail, work with vendor’s web sites, and research new product web sites.
- Assist with construction/remodel plan review of upcoming projects of the plumbing systems.

- Reconciliation of purchasing cards for employees, monitor and approve employee time.
- Able to perform physical demands of the job: standing for long periods of time, lifting (up to 80 lbs.), twisting, and bending, working in tunnels and other confined spaces, working from ladders and lifts, and working outside in the elements.
- Knowledge of trade specific building codes, OSHA regulations, and safety requirements.
- Ability to operate different types of aerial lift equipment and trade specific tools and equipment.
- Working knowledge of plumbing and mechanical systems and be able to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with those systems.
- Ability to diagnose problems with plumbing and mechanical systems in relation to hot and cold water, loop systems and steam and condensate systems.
- Knowledge and proficient with Sprocket work order system or similar electronic work order program.
- Working knowledge of power tools needed to do the job, such as pipe threaders, letters, augers, and camera equipment.
- Working knowledge of electronic sensors on faucets, flush valves, and showers.
- Ability to organize and plan special projects with outside contractors.
- Understand work order processing and preventative maintenance requirements.
- Ability to review new project specifications and drawings and be able to make useful recommendations.
- Knowledge of code requirements for fire sprinkler protection.
- Must be familiar with plumbing codes, pump operation, repair, and maintenance (i.e., sewage ejectors, centrifugal, sump pumps, condensate pump etc.).
