Job Summary

The Research Grant & Budget Analyst is responsible for the financial and accounting processes and deliverables that support clinical research activities. This role manages the full lifecycle of clinical trial budgeting — from initial development and negotiation through amendments, reporting, and closeout. Responsibilities include developing complex study budgets from start to finish, negotiating budget terms with sponsors, reviewing clinical trial agreements and scientific protocols, maintaining fee schedule updates, and preparing accurate financial reports.

The analyst ensures financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and proper cost allocation across all phases of the study. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy, and the ability to interpret complex protocols and agreements within a clinical research environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead financial management of clinical research studies across pre-award and post-award phases
  • Develop, analyze, and negotiate complex clinical trial budgets and payment terms with industry, government, non-profit, and investigator sponsors
  • Conduct Medicare Coverage Analysis, evaluating protocols to determine resource needs, cost allocation, and standard-of-care vs. research-related expenses
  • Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), FAR Part 31, and sponsor regulations (e.g., NIH, NSF, DOE)
  • Partner with Principal Investigators, study teams, ancillary departments, OSP, and sponsors to ensure accurate budgeting and contract alignment
  • Review and process protocol and budget amendments
  • Monitor study accounts, reconcile receivables, track payments, and provide forecasting and financial performance analysis
  • Prepare and manage sponsor invoices, ancillary payments, and patient stipends; resolve payment discrepancies and negotiate final account closeout
  • Maintain accurate financial data in OnCore and ensure alignment between study calendars, budgets, and coverage analysis
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations to support investigators and leadership decision-making
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in clinical research finance and contribute to process improvements, audits, and training initiatives
