AESC is looking to add an Associate General Counsel to our team in Murfreesboro, TN.
Full‑time, Hybrid/On‑site.
AESC is a global leader in high‑performance batteries for zero‑emission electric vehicles and energy storage systems. Founded in Japan in 2007 and headquartered in Yokohama, AESC has built manufacturing capabilities worldwide, including U.S., U.K., Europe, Japan and China. Over the past 14 years, we have partnered with leading OEMs and energy storage providers, powering more than one million electric vehicles and delivering over 15 GWh of installed capacity for battery systems in 60+ countries.
We are expanding our U.S. footprint with gigafactories in Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee. AESC’s Tennessee gigafactory in Smyrna supplies batteries for the Nissan LEAF, while the South Carolina and Kentucky plants support BMW and other OEMs. We are committed to local communities through job creation and charitable support.
About the RoleAs Associate General Counsel, you will shape legal strategy, structure, and compliance to support AESC’s growth. Working closely with the General Counsel Americas and other leaders, you will develop legal strategies, manage large‑scale projects, and oversee drafting, negotiation, and review of key contracts.
What You Will Do Legal Strategy and Structure- Collaborate with senior leaders to develop legal structures and establish processes for managing legal projects and daily operations.
- Serve as primary legal advisor for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating master services agreements, EPC contracts, vendor agreements, and other commercial contracts.
- Ensure all contracts comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, mitigating risk through careful analysis of terms.
- Provide counsel on regulatory compliance and internal policy adherence.
- Identify and solve legal and contractual risks, advising internal teams on complex matters and long‑term projects.
- Lead and manage large‑scale legal projects and critical issues facing the organization.
- Supervise and mentor junior legal professionals, fostering professional growth aligned with company goals.
- Implement scalable contracting processes to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with sales, compliance, finance and operations teams to provide legal guidance on projects and daily functions.
Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Need Educational Background- J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school.
- Member in good standing of a state bar to practice independently.
- At least 5 years of legal experience in a law firm, in‑house department, or equivalent setting.
- Extensive experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and drafting skills with great attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with sound problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach.
- Exceptional written and oral communication, collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Understands and follows IATF
16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards (training provided). - Understands and follows ISO
14001 environmental standards (training provided).
- Prior experience managing junior legal professionals or teams.
- Experience in energy, manufacturing, or technology sectors with a focus on commercial and regulatory issues.
- Experience in high‑volume manufacturing (automotive or battery production) is advantageous.
- Experience in a startup or rapidly growing environment, showing adaptability.
- Demonstrated success in managing large‑scale legal projects and cross‑functional initiatives.
- Familiarity with legal process automation and scalable workflows.
Occasional domestic and international travel required.
