Job Title: Financial Counselor

Financial Counselor – Key Responsibilities
- Work the daily appointments – open balances and print statements for front desk collections.
- Meet face‑to‑face with patients regarding balances on their accounts.
- Explain patient benefits (deductibles, co‑pays, and co‑insurance).
- Set up payment plans.
- Submit adjustment requests and request patient refunds.
- Assist front desk with check‑out.
- Perform pre‑service collections for surgery deposits, ESI, and high‑dollar drugs.
- Schedule patients for appointments or follow‑ups.
- Work the self‑pay report (aging report & work log).
- Follow‑up on insurance denials.
- Collect patient payments.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by Site Manager or Front Desk Supervisor.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Demonstrated success in a revenue cycle or healthcare business office with self‑pay or insurance collections.
- Exceptional customer‑service focus.
- Strong telephone communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand payer remittance advices, differentiate allowed charges, contractual adjustments, denials, patient responsibility, bundled payments, etc.
- Must meet average expectations for productivity and quality standards.
- Detail orientation and ability to recognize address changes, typing errors, coding mistakes, or other revenue‑cycle errors.
- Organize and prioritize day‑to‑day tasks to keep work assignments current.
- Strong mathematical skills to apply discounts accurately and maintain correct patient balances.
- Proficient in MS‑Excel for data analysis using formulas, pivot tables, and charts.
