Permits Tech - Building Codes

Job Overview

Annual Salary Range: $42,881 to $46,017

Performs specialized administrative and financial work related to the issuance of building permits and the collection of development and school facilities taxes. Provides clerical, technical, and customer service support to the Building Codes Department.

• Issue building permits and temporary Certificates of Occupancy
• Review permit applications, plans, and supporting documentation
• Calculate, collect, and record permit fees and development taxes
• Maintain accurate financial, permit, inspection, and contractor records
• Enter and maintain permit and inspection data, including GIS records
• Provide customer service and information to the public, contractors, and developers
• Record and post inspection information for inspectors
• Maintain departmental files and records
• Perform general clerical and administrative duties
  
  Coordinate with inspectors, other departments, and external agencies
  
  Maintain confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws and regulations

• High school diploma or GED
• College coursework or vocational training in secretarial science, bookkeeping, or related field preferred
• One (1) year of administrative, bookkeeping, or customer service experience (government or building codes experience preferred)
• Valid Tennessee driver's license
