Ball State University Facilities Planning and Management has an opportunity to work on the beautiful campus. This opportunity comes with excellent pay. The rate for this position is $28.00 per hour. Minimum Education- 1. High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 1. Successful completion of an Automotive Mechanic apprenticeship program as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University.
- 2. Two (2) years or more full-time experience working as a mechanic in a professional garage.
- 3. No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals, or environmental factors.
- 4. Must be able to read and comprehend OSHA and hazardous materials info.
- 5. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once, provide friendly and prompt customer service, and work independently.
- 6. Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies, procedures, and communications, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- 7. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Transport Endorsement or obtain such licensing within a reasonable time period after hire as determined by Ball State University if the position requires the employee to hold a valid CDL.
- 8. Must pass post-offer/pre-employment mandatory drug and alcohol test.
- 9. Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
- 10. You must be 18 years or older.
- Completion of a post-secondary program in automobile technology, medium and heavy-duty diesel truck technology or heavy equipment repair.
- 1. Preventive maintenance experience in automotive, medium-duty, heavy-duty, transit bus, landscaping and construction equipment.
- 2. Training and/or experience with EPA 2007 and 2010 Diesel Emissions Standards.
- 3. Extensive experience with transit and/or coach buses.
- 4. ASE Master Technician.
- 5. ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Master Technician.
- 6. ASE Master Truck Equipment Certification.
- 7. ASE Transit Bus Master Technician.
- 8. ASE Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Certification (L2).
Under general supervision, perform skilled mechanical maintenance and service duties on automobiles and other related vehicles and equipment and/or grounds and construction equipment, complying with EPA, OSHA, and all appropriate regulations and codes following proper procedures and techniques.
Duties & Responsibilities- Ranking 1 – Job Duty:
Repair automobiles, buses, trucks, landscape and agricultural equipment, stationary generators, and related equipment. Inspect, diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines used throughout the university system. Disassemble, repair, and/or overhaul engines, transmissions, differentials and all subcomponents. Demonstrate the ability to rebuild component parts and assemblies using accepted practices and special tools. Must be able to safely use acetylene and electric welders to facilitate repairs or modifications.
Must be able to test drive all University vehicles. Must be able to learn and demonstrate mastery of CFA Win and Shop Floor software recordkeeping systems. - Duty Requirement:
Requires the physical ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, grasp, and exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Visual ability to inspect areas, read written materials, judge distances, shape, shadow, distinguish colors, etc. Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, etc. Mental ability to receive and follow oral instructions and read, comprehend, and follow written instructions and information. - Ranking 2 – Job Duty:
Troubleshoot ignition, electrical systems, fuel delivery and computer controlled operational systems. Repair and service air conditioning, heating, and engine-cooling systems. Utilize test equipment and wiring charts to diagnose and repair complex automotive, truck, and bus wiring. Must be able to understand loading and flow of electricity to diagnose and repair those items that do not have wiring charts or manuals.
