About this opportunity:Ball State University Facilities Planning and Management has an opportunity to work on the beautiful campus. Schedule for this position is Monday‑Friday 3:30 pm‑Midnight.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
What you'll do:- Construct and/or remodel university facilities.
- Clean, renovate, and renew wood and hard floor surface finishes.
- Install and repair fixtures of university facilities.
- Build and install cabinets, casework, furniture, counters, and plastic laminate tops.
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials using hand and/or power tools.
- Apply construction materials to floors, walls, ceilings, and roofs of university buildings.
- Fit, install, and service doors, windows, glass, exit devices, and door hardware.
- Construct concrete forms and finish concrete as required.
- Move and erect manual and power ladders, scaffolds, and other lift platforms.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of job‑related chemicals, environmental concerns, building codes, and new technology.
- Clean and maintain department equipment and tools; clean job site as necessary; report damaged or missing equipment to the supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in carpentry or four (4) years of verified proof of carpentry experience.
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and perform mathematical calculations, and understand policies and procedures for safety and hazardous materials.
- Valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
- Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
- 18 years or older.
- Vocational school training.
- Two years’ experience in commercial and/or institutional door hardware, fixtures, and equipment.
- Experience in cabinetry, mill work, and furniture assembly.
