The Opportunity

Open Door Health Services (ODHS) is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead a mission-driven organization delivering accessible, affordable, and patient-centered care in East Central Indiana. This is a high-impact executive leadership opportunity for a proven leader who can translate mission into measurable outcomes, strengthening access, quality, culture, and long-term sustainability.

Role Summary

The CEO is accountable to the Board of Directors and provides executive leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of ODHS operations. The CEO leads organizational performance, financial stewardship, risk/compliance readiness, workforce culture, and community partnerships.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Mission-centered executive leadership that balances community impact with operational and financial sustainability.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high-performing leadership teams with clear accountability, trust, and consistent follow-through.
  • Strong board partnership skills with transparent reporting, sound judgment, and comfort navigating complex governance environments.
  • Adept at monitoring and responding to policy, regulatory, and reimbursement changes, anticipating impacts and leading organizational readiness.
  • Strategic, collaborative communicator who can align stakeholders and drive execution across multi-site operations.
Key Responsibilities Governance & Board Partnership
  • Serve as primary staff liaison to the Board and support strong governance through clear, timely performance reporting.
  • Ensure ODHS priorities, risks, and strategic progress are Board-ready and transparent.
Strategy, Access & Community Impact
  • Lead strategic planning and execution with measurable progress toward mission outcomes.
  • Strengthen patient access, service capacity, and patient experience across ODHS sites.
Operations & Program Oversight
  • Drive operational excellence through the Senior Leadership Team; ensure efficient, effective, community-responsive programs.
  • Promote a culture of performance improvement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Financial Stewardship & Sustainability
  • Lead long-range financial strategy, budgeting, and controls to safeguard assets and strengthen sustainability.
  • Partner with finance leadership to optimize reimbursement strategy, forecasting, and funding diversification.
Workforce & Culture Leadership
  • Build, coach, and lead a high-performing leadership team aligned to ODHS values.
  • Advance a culture of accountability, trust, engagement, and talent development.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure readiness for audits, reviews, and regulatory oversight; lead executive risk management.
  • Monitor, interpret, and lead ODHS response to policy, regulatory, and reimbursement changes (federal/state), assessing operational and financial impacts and ensuring proactive readiness.
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, ethics, and corporate compliance.
Community Relations & Partnerships
  • Serve as ODHS’s chief external representative; strengthen relationships with hospitals, schools, funders, and community partners.
  • Elevate ODHS visibility and reputation at the local, state, and national level.
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s strongly preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, including 5+ years in senior/executive leadership
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic execution and organizational performance
  • Demonstrated financial stewardship and sustainability leadership
  • Ability to build and lead high-accountability leadership teams
  • Proven capability in external partnerships, Board relations, and community engagement
  • Ability to lead in a highly regulated environment with strong compliance expectations
  • High integrity, discretion, sound judgment, and strong executive communication skills
Strongly Preferred
  • Master’s degree in MHA, MBA, MPH, or related field
  • Professional development certifications in health care management
  • Experience in FQHC healthcare leadership
  • Experience leading multi-site operations in complex, Medicaid-heavy environments
  • Track record overseeing grant funding/public funding streams, fundraising/philanthropy, and major organizational change or growth initiatives
