Cardinal Care Strategies Dietary Cook​/Aide Part Time

Department: Dietary / Nutrition Services

Reports To: Dietary Manager / Food Service Director

The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for residents in a long-term care facility while following physician-ordered diets, food safety regulations, and facility policies. This role supports resident health, comfort, and quality of life through consistent, high-quality food service.

• Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes, menus, and resident diet orders (e.g., therapeutic, texture-modified, and special diets)
• Ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule and at proper temperatures
• Follow food safety and sanitation standards, including proper food handling, storage, and cleaning procedures
• Assist with meal service as needed, including plating, portion control, and special requests
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including equipment and work areas
• Monitor food supplies and assist with inventory and restocking
• Work collaboratively with dietary staff, nursing, and management to meet resident needs
• Follow infection control, safety, and emergency procedures
• Comply with state, federal, and facility regulations related to food service in long-term care

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Previous cooking experience, preferably in healthcare, long-term care, or institutional food service
• Knowledge of modified diets (mechanical soft, pureed, diabetic, low-sodium, etc.)
• Ability to read and follow recipes and diet cards accurately

• Strong attention to detail and consistency
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Effective time management and teamwork skills
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift kitchen supplies as needed
• Compassion and respect for elderly residents

• Kitchen and food service environment
• Exposure to heat, steam, and food service equipment
• Weekend, holiday, and shift work may be required
