Job Description

Salary range: $43,999 - $45,000.

Position Function

What you’ll do and what you’ll bring: Academic Advisors within University College at Ball State University strive to empower and inspire students to develop a meaningful academic experience using the array of high‑quality opportunities and educational tools provided by the university to become impactful leaders in their academic field and community. Utilizing a student‑centered approach, academic advisors are dedicated to teaching students how to successfully access academic information and connect to crucial resources as well as equipping them with the skills necessary to develop a high‑quality educational experience and achieve timely graduation.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • This position will provide comprehensive and proactive academic advising, promote student success strategies, and guide students in understanding their degree requirements, academic policies, university procedures, and the university resources available to make informed decisions regarding their degree program.
  • Provide proactive advising to an assigned caseload of approximately 300 students to provide information and guidance on academic‑related issues such as course planning and registration, degree requirements, and academic progress.
  • Provide support to students by creating and maintaining personalized four‑year degree plans as mandated by the State of Indiana; train students to interpret the degree audit and use Self‑Service Banner (SSB).
  • Promote strategies for success with students including time management, study tips, and participation in tutoring and supplemental instruction sessions; conduct proactive/intrusive outreach to high‑support students; provide additional intervention with assigned students on in the process of academic warning.
  • Participate in appropriate admissions and orientation events; assist new transfer students and collaborate with academic departments as necessary.
  • Participate in unit specific and campus‑wide retention and student success initiatives.
  • Assist students in exploring career/major options and the use of related campus services; assist students in the selection of alternative and/or complementary major/minor programs.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of university academic programs, requirements, policies, and procedures as outlined in academic postings, the Undergraduate Catalog, the Student Success Handbook, and other resources.
  • Create reports related to student advisee caseloads as directed by academic advising leadership.
  • Assist students in understanding the philosophical purpose and requirements of the University Core Curriculum (UCC).
  • Communicate with academic departments regarding curriculum and advising services as appropriate.
  • Serve as a referral agent to other university resources and services.
  • Represent Academic Advising through service on university committees and participation in campus events; participate in professional development activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university by date of employment. Experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, or related field.
  • Ability to work with faculty, administration, and undergraduate students.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and work independently.
