As a member of Rhythm’s international field‑based Medical Affairs team you will work within the Rare Genetic Disease of Obesity field. The Scientific Affairs Manager (SAM) will serve as a trusted scientific partner to external experts and decision makers through mutual scientific engagement and exchange. Leveraging your scientific background, industry knowledge, and business acumen, you will act as a scientific resource to both internal and external stakeholders, support the local Hospital Affairs Lead (HAL), and build peer‑to‑peer relationships to provide clinical, scientific, and medical education in the territory.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
- Serve as Scientific Affairs Manager for the territory in Germany and as a member of the International Medical Affairs team to develop and implement the local Medical Affairs strategy.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all German external experts, ensuring consistent and seamless communication.
- Provide scientific peer‑to‑peer resource to disease experts and the medical community, offering up‑to‑date medical and product information to build understanding of setmelanotide’s benefits.
- Map patient journeys, diagnosis, and therapeutic patterns, and develop local genetic testing initiatives to aid expert identification of rare sick cases.
- Collaborate closely with Global Clinical Development and Operations on investigator interactions, clinical trial execution, and advisory boards, triaging any issues that impede study progress.
- Assist in identifying and educating referral sites for clinical trials to drive enrollment.
- Develop and implement a novel scientific communication plan for setmelanotide and contribute to the medical/scientific review of manuscripts.
- Provide medical/scientific review of scientific communication platforms, medical information resources, education materials, and marketing materials to ensure local Germany compliance.
- Contribute to training initiatives for medical colleagues, support design of medical decks, and provide input on local medical and cross‑functional initiatives.
- Communicate effectively the medical value of the asset both internally and externally to generate excitement.
- Maintain cross‑functional collaboration with Marketing, Regulatory, Drug Safety, Market Access, and R&D.
- Respond to unsolicited medical information requests in a timely manner, ensuring accurate and balanced responses.
- Advanced degree in a pharmaceutical, scientific, or medical field (Pharm
D, PhD, MD). - 8+ years experience in a Medical Science Liaison or similar field‑based scientific exchange role in biopharmaceutical/rare disease areas.
- Superior communication skills and scientific acumen in presenting clinical and disease‑state information to varied audiences, fluent in German and English.
- Knowledge of regional/local healthcare systems, medical landscape, reimbursement, and industry trends.
