1st Security is looking for smart, driven, and kind undergraduate students to participate in the summer internship program. This is for students with an interest in pursuing a career in finance, banking or a related industry. The students will work within the specific department for the position applied for with an opportunity to work with and be exposed to other departments of the bank, providing a well-rounded experience.

POSITION

SUMMARY

This position is a structured summer rotational internship designed to provide hands‑on experience across the Bank’s Profitability, Finance, Accounting, and Secondary Marketing teams. Under the direction of the Profitability Incentive Manager, the intern will rotate through each functional area, supporting core initiatives and contributing to meaningful projects that impact bank‑wide performance.

The program is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to finance‑adjacent disciplines within corporate banking. Interns will gain foundational knowledge of how profitability is measured at both the enterprise and segment level, apply accounting principles in a real‑time operational environment, develop an understanding of bank cash flow and liquidity management, and gain exposure to Secondary Marketing functions, including loan pricing, pipeline management, and the buying and selling of loans.

The intern will also be introduced to the structure and design of bank incentive compensation programs, including how performance metrics are established, measured, and aligned to strategic objectives.

This rotational experience is intended to provide a broad understanding of how corporate finance functions integrate to support strategic decision‑making within a banking organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Regular data entry, importing, report building and report distributing;
  • Creation of base models for financial reporting and budgeting;
  • Creation of reporting by segment for profitability compared to peer industry reports;
  • Assists the Profitability Incentive Manager with new company wide initiatives focused on improving and/or maintaining profitability;
  • Financial forecasting including pro forma modeling for new business opportunities;
  • Creation of key metrics for each team at the bank, requiring interaction with Cost Center Managers;
  • Responsible for working with the Profitability Incentive Manager to develop tools to assist team members with identifying means to improve profitability;
  • Assists the Profitability Incentive Manager with the creation of tools to identify lost revenue and/or unnecessary expenses;
  • Developing metrics for managers that assist with the profitability by segment or product;
  • Other duties as assigned.
