Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help design and build highly scalable, resilient systems that power payments, money movement, and financial workflows. In this role, you’ll work on complex distributed systems, build platform-level capabilities, and contribute to an open financial ecosystem used at global scale. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver secure, high-performance solutions that are reliable, observable, and easy to evolve.

Pay Range: $80/hr on w2 to $85/hr on w2

• Design and build multi-layered permission and role-based access systems with strong policy enforcement and consensus mechanisms
• Develop automated remediation and exception management engines, including support for complex fund flows
• Build and optimize high-performance search systems with sub-millisecond latency as a key performance goal
• Architect and implement highly concurrent, robust, and self-healing batch processing systems
• Design and maintain distributed backend systems for payments, money movement, and workflow orchestration
• Contribute to platformization efforts, creating reusable services and shared infrastructure
• Write high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code that meets customer and regulatory requirements
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers on small to medium-sized teams

• 6+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems
• Strong backend engineering experience, ideally in payments, financial systems, or money movement
• Experience with platform engineering and building reusable services at scale
• Proven experience serving as a senior engineer on a small to medium-sized team
• Deep understanding of concurrency, fault tolerance, and system reliability
• Passion for building secure, scalable financial infrastructure
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field
