Role OverviewThe Software Development Manager - Organizations is responsible for the team powering the Organization API. This team owns the organization platform that enables customers to manage users, roles, permissions, access, and configurations in a highly regulated environment. The manager will lead the team through expansion, hire and mentor engineers, and collaborate cross‑functionally to define best practices, processes, and policies that scale with growth.
Responsibilities- Manage a team of 6–8 engineers.
- Coach team members through regular 1:1s, performance feedback, and yearly reviews.
- Influence vision and long‑term goals by participating in roadmap planning with engineering and product leadership.
- Collaborate with product managers, other engineering teams, and leadership to solve critical problems and build optimal solutions for customers.
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship through code reviews, architecture critiques, and knowledge‑sharing forums.
- Act as application owner: review PRs, ship releases, participate in on‑call rotations, and lead incident response.
- Occasionally jump in to debug and understand code to accelerate delivery (manager does not own features).
- Plan and manage engineering resources to achieve predictable roadmap delivery, iterating scrums and backlog as priorities shift.
- At least 2 years of experience managing a team of 4+ engineers.
- 6+ years of experience with relational databases (Postgre
SQL, MySQL, or similar). - 6+ years in an Agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.) using tools such as Jira, Trello, Product Plan to plan, assign, track, and report work.
- Data‑driven decision making, evidence gathering, and consensus building.
- Hands‑on leadership with a bias toward action and proactive problem solving.
- Strong understanding of A/B testing strategies and result interpretation.
- Ability to thrive amid shifting priorities, exercising sound judgment on trade‑offs.
- Passion for software engineering, continuous learning, and growth.
- Proven track record of building, owning, delivering, and maintaining quality products.
- Experience managing a team that owns a consumer‑facing application at scale.
- Background at a growing startup.
- Deep experience in automated testing methodologies and tools.
- Talent assessment and hiring experience.
- Engineering experience with Ruby on Rails.
- Familiarity with OpenID Connect, SAML, XACML SCIM, OAuth, Federation, etc.
Base salary: $220,000 – $264,621 USD (annual).
