About Range Energy

Range Energy builds powered trailers that help electrify heavy‑duty trucking without requiring fleets to replace their tractors. We solve real‑world problems with real hardware.

We move fast, take ownership, and hold a high bar for execution. We value people who are low ego and team‑first, calm under pressure, direct and respectful communicators, willing to roll up their sleeves, and focused on solutions, not drama.

We operate with high integrity. We do what we say we’ll do, we’re transparent about risks and tradeoffs, and we build trust through consistent follow‑through.

The work is hands‑on. Sometimes messy. Often fast. Always meaningful.

Founded in 2021, Range is led by experienced EV operators from Tesla, Zoox, Honda, and other leading OEMs. We are backed by strong investors and focused on building hardware that fleets will actually use.

If you like building real things, solving hard problems, and working with low drama, high output teammates, you will fit here.

Role Summary

Range Energy is hiring a skilled, hands‑on Prototype Fabricator to join our prototype shop team. You will work as a peer alongside our existing fabrication engineer, someone who has been building Range hardware since nearly day one, to expand the team’s capacity and capability as we move from early prototypes into pilot deployments and beyond.

This role sits at the intersection of manufacturing and engineering. You are the person who takes a CAD model or sketch from the engineering team and turns it into a real, functional part or assembly. You will share day‑to‑day workflow management in the prototype shop, operate and maintain a variety of fabrication equipment, and work closely with engineers to improve designs for manufacturability, quality and speed.

Success here requires deep hands‑on fabrication expertise, strong collaboration instincts, and the judgment to flag design or process issues early and communicate solutions clearly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate prototype and pre‑production parts and assemblies from engineering drawings, white board sketches, CAD models, and verbal direction.
  • Operate and maintain fabrication equipment including MIG & TIG welders, manual mills and lathes, sheet metal press brakes, waterjet cutters, and 3D printers.
  • Partner with engineers during design reviews to provide early feedback on manufacturability as well as providing input that improves part quality and structural integrity.
  • Model and enforce safe work practices at all times—PPE compliance, proper equipment operation, and hazard awareness.
  • Help establish and uphold a culture of high quality and craftsmanship in the shop.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands‑on fabrication experience in a professional shop, prototype, or manufacturing environment.
  • Expert‑level MIG & TIG welding on steel and aluminum; ability to produce structurally sound, clean welds to drawing and CAD model callouts.
  • Experience with CAD software (Solid Works, OnShape, etc.) to work with and dissect engineering models, as well as the capability to design parts and weld fixturing.
  • Proficiency with manual mills & lathes, CNC sheet metal press brakes and waterjet cutting machines.
  • Strong fabrication judgment: know when a part is good enough vs. needing improvements, and can communicate that clearly.
  • Comfortable in a fast‑moving prototype environment where CAD and drawings may be incomplete and priorities shift quickly.
  • Safety‑first habits and willingness to follow strict procedures, especially around heavy equipment and energized systems.
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Haves
  • Experience in automotive, EV, aerospace, or heavy equipment prototype shops.
  • Hands‑on expertise with FDM and/or SLA 3D printing.
  • Fabrication of G‑10 composite and plastic parts.
  • Forklift certification and experience moving large assemblies safely.
  • AWS Certified Welder (CW) or appropriate trade school certifications.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional engineering teams in a startup or fast‑iteration environment.

We know that talent comes in many forms, and some of the best fabricators have non‑linear career paths. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly…
