About the Data Center Technician Role:
As a Data Center Technician in the Hardware Operations team, you will be responsible for the physical infrastructure supporting Google’s search technology. Your responsibilities will include:
• Installation, Configuration, Testing, Troubleshooting, and Maintenance: You will work with server hardware (servers and their components) and server software (like Google’s Linux cluster). This involves hands-on work with physical equipment.
• Network Management: You will manage the configuration of network components, including routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols.
• Project Participation and Leadership: You will participate in or lead project teams for installations, developing contingency plans for potential issues. This includes the physical movement and installation of server racks.
• Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: You will lead the troubleshooting and resolution of escalated technical issues related to hardware and software.
• Server Hardware and OS Support: You will contribute to testing and troubleshooting server hardware components and designs, as well as configuring and troubleshooting operating system (OS) related issues on servers.
• Deployment and Maintenance: You will contribute to and potentially lead efforts and projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of the data center infrastructure.
In short, this role is highly technical and involves a blend of hands-on hardware work, software troubleshooting, and project management responsibilities within a large-scale data center environment.
