Position: Substance Use Counselor (CASAC)

Substance Use Counselor (CASAC)

Access:
Supports for Living

Location: Mt. Vernon, NY

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Pay: $28.50 – $35.00 per hour, depending on certification.

Minimum Certification: CASAC‑T or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a caseload of 50+ patients and perform casework responsibilities: conduct intake interviews, write complete intake bio‑psycho‑social assessments, establish collaborative relationships, utilize age‑appropriate interventions, meet with patients as noted in their treatment plans, provide individual, group, and family counseling.
  • Educate patients in substance abuse and recovery; complete clinical counseling records in accordance with The Guidance Center’s policies and applicable regulations.
  • Develop multidisciplinary treatment plans with realistic goals and objectives within required time frames; ensure progress notes accurately reflect goals, objectives, and interventions and are completed on time.
  • Prepare discharge summaries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain awareness of changes to agency and CDTC policies; interpret policies and assist patients in adherence.
  • Protect patient confidentiality per CFR Part 42.
  • Represent patients and participate in Interdisciplinary Team meetings; act as liaison to other community agencies and government organizations.
  • Make appropriate referrals; attend weekly supervision; accept additional responsibilities as requested.
  • Handle conflict resolution with a positive attitude; demonstrate understanding of issues related to varying age and gender populations.
  • Assess crisis situations and report relevant observations; assess evidence of child abuse/neglect or domestic violence and promptly report to supervisor.

Qualifications: Demonstrated thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws relevant to substance use counseling and clinic policies.
