TEACHER ASSISTANT

Pay: $17/hour

QUALIFICATIONS

Must meet requirements for paraprofessionals set by the Illinois State Board of Education
Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively and fluently in English
Competent in utilizing a computer to communicate via email and in using an office productivity suite like Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Word) or Google Apps for Education
Demonstrated compassion, patience and teamwork
Training and/or experience as teacher assistant desired

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling is required
Must have the ability to lift and move 60 lbs.

Teacher(s) will provide guidance

JOB GOAL

To assist the teacher and students in achieving their educational goals
To assist students in a variety of settings within the school and on field trips
To support students so that they may participate in classes and activities with peers

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reports to work on time

Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance

Reads and responds to district/building communications in a timely manner and within any explicitly defined deadlines

Works with individual students or small groups to support/reinforce classroom lessons and objectives as directed by the teacher

Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher

Assists the teacher in monitoring student behavior/academic progress

Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips and transition periods

Works with/assists teacher in supporting classroom instruction, providing materials and creating a positive instructional environment

When applicable, assists teacher in implementing Individual Education Plan

Shares information on student progress and student concerns with the classroom teacher in a timely fashion

On a regular basis, establishes a time within the school day to collaborate and discuss expected duties with the assigned teacher(s)

Helps students with their clothing, lunch, snacks, and clean up routine

Serves as a source of information for substitute teachers

Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality

Demonstrates effective management of his/her time and student schedules

Implements and follows the District’s Health and Accident/Injury Procedures and Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan

Supports and implements the District’s Risk Management Policy to ensure that statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees, and students, to provide careful supervision and protection of all District real and personal property

Conducts himself/herself as a role model for students

Participates in professional development/training programs as directed by building or district administrator(s)

Completes all District required trainings and adhere to all Board policies and procedures

Performs additional job duties as assigned by the building /district administrator(s)

CONTRACT AND COMPENSATION

Starting at $17.00 an hour
12 sick days/4 personal days/11 paid holidays (prorated)
HMO-PPO Medical & Dental Insurance (HMO employee only - no cost)
