Job Brief:
We are seeking a skilled Level 2 Data Center Technician to join our IT team. The Level 2 Data Center Technician’s responsibilities include maintaining the data center’s IT system, troubleshooting issues, performing server installations, and ensuring uninterrupted access to network services. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of network infrastructure and data center operations. Familiarity with server installations, network updates, break‑fix tasks, and GPU deployment is also required.
- Perform tasks listed under Level 1 as needed.
- Move servers and switches to required destinations for installation.
- Inspect servers and switches to ensure they are not damaged.
- Install servers and switches and cable them according to provided wire maps.
- Ensure all cables are bundled neatly and in accordance with standards.
- Double‑check with network admins that everything is cabled correctly and all connections are up.
- Install additional components needed (NIC, drive, memory).
- Assist in unboxing and prepping servers as needed.
- Audit servers and consumables.
- Troubleshoot a variety of servers and isolate the problems they encounter.
- Order replacement parts, install them in servers, and ship back the defective parts to vendors.
- Update firmware on servers to ensure the latest version is installed.
- Configure IP addresses and default login credentials on servers.
- Assist network admins with any issues they have with a server, including replacing broken or damaged cables, re‑routing cables to different ports, replacing optics, changing parts, and installing upgraded versions.
- Temporarily rack and stack a server or switch in a cabinet and cable it so the network admin can remotely log in and run configurations on the device.
- Deploy and configure GPUs in servers, ensuring proper installation and functionality.
- Perform break‑fix tasks, including troubleshooting and replacing faulty components.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
- Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Flexibility to work non‑standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds when necessary.
- Ability to safely climb ladders when necessary.
- Ability to wear personal protective gear correctly when necessary.
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the facility for extended periods without loss or reduction of productivity.
- 2-3 years of experience in a data center environment.
- Data center, deployment, fiber optic cable, cable, rack and stack, cabling, troubleshooting, Cat6, Cat5, GPU.
- CompTIA A+ or equivalent experience.
- CompTIA Server+ or equivalent experience.
- CCENT or equivalent experience.
- Windows OS experience.
- CCNA certification preferred.
- MCP/MSCE certification preferred.
- Scripting experience preferred – Power Shell, Python, Bash.
- Experience with structured cabling, rack & stack, fiber, or optical testing.
- Understanding of storage devices.
- Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
- Familiarity with ITIL Framework (ITSM, Change Management, Problem Management).
- Strong understanding of Network Fundamentals (OSI Layers 1‑3).
- Experience with building, testing, and running cables between devices.
- Experience with installing and terminating copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Experience with GPU deployment and troubleshooting.
- OSHA‑30 or higher certification.
Contract position based out of Mount Pleasant, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.80 – $30.80/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
