This position has overall responsibility for the Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy department’s clinical outcomes, growth strategy, operational efficiency, financial performance, market share, and staff development/performance. The ideal candidate will be committed to both operational efficiencies and high-quality patient care.
Essential Functions- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation services.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, therapy assistants, and support staff.
- Develop and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures aligned with hospital objectives and best practices.
- Serve as the primary liaison between therapy services and medical staff, ensuring treatment plans are aligned with physicians’ orders.
- Review and interpret physician referrals and prescriptions to ensure appropriate and timely initiation of therapy services.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agency regulations (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission).
- Direct the provision of all rehabilitative clinical services to maximize program efficiency and client satisfaction.
- Ensure timely conversion of referrals to admissions and facilitate effective patient admission process to achieve or exceed all admission goals.
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of third‑party payers, both government and commercial, for admissions.
- Maintain departmental readiness for audits, surveys, and inspections.
- Communicate established financial/billing procedures to patients, including proper verification of benefits information prior to their admission.
- Manage the rehabilitation department staffing levels through daily coordination of staff assignments to meet clinical and operational needs. Manage productivity and efficiency to meet financial and clinical goals.
- Perform recruitment, selection, development and orientation of all clinical and administrative staff to ensure the delivery of safe and consistent quality care to all patients/clients.
- Conduct chart audits and staff observations to ensure compliance with standards of care.
- Review patient medical records to ensure that all federal and state law requirements and conditions of participation for Medicare and Medicaid are met and that an accurate record of the number of treatments provided is generated by each therapist and assistant.
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment in the rehabilitation department and facilitate preventative maintenance annually.
- Participate in marketing and education activities with physicians, medical groups, discharge planners, patients, families and community.
- Identify and recommend development of new programs or service enhancements that promote increased clientele and patient satisfaction.
- Oversee departmental budgeting, resource allocation, staffing models, and productivity benchmarks.
- Analyze departmental performance metrics and implement strategies for improvement and cost effectiveness.
- Monitor compliance with billing procedures, requirements and deadlines. Prepare and submit weekly reports to summarize activities, achievements, and outcomes as requested by the leadership.
- Perform all duties as a staff therapist as assigned or needed, according to discipline, and as professional license allows.

- Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
- Three to Five years of experience working in an outpatient therapy facility or similar facility required.
- One to Three years of experience in a management position preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare management, or similar field required.
- Master’s degree in related field preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) obtained within 30 days of employment required.
