Overview
Vet Assistant job nt Pleasant, SC. The Veterinary Assistant supports the veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring quality veterinary care for all pets, advocates for pets, educates clients on all aspects of pet health, and ensures a safe and effective hospital environment.
Responsibilities- Act as extra eyes, ears and hands for veterinarians and technicians to ensure quality pet care and maximize productivity.
- Communicate with team members to maintain patient flow.
- Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service, including performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or technician assistance.
- Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care, and pet health needs.
- Obtain client information and maintain medical charts.
- Ensure safety of pets, clients, and associates by using safe restraining techniques and maintaining clean treatment areas.
- Assist with surgery as applicable.
- Utilize technical skills within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines.
- Mentor other paraprofessionals.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
- Certificate from a NAVTA approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Minimum age 18 for radiography duties.
- One year related experience preferred.
- Ability to multi-task, strong communication and organizational skills, client service skills, intellectual and mathematical ability, and computer skills.
- Attitudes: initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence, and tolerance for stress.
- Adherence to the Five Principles of Mars, Inc., leadership and functional competencies (action orientation, customer focus, effective communication, problem solving).
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods.
- Confidence around pets; ability to work more than 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings.
- Physical requirements such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to various hazards.
