Overview
Respiratory Care Practitioner II provides professional respiratory care for inpatients and outpatients following established standards and procedures as outlined in departmental policy/procedure manuals and professional licensing agencies.
Shift: As needed 6:30pm - 7:00am
Job title:
Respiratory Care Practitioner II
- Initiation, monitoring and maintenance of oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway management, mechanical ventilation, noninvasive ventilation, continuous pulse oximetry and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Drive implementation and maintenance of departmental protocols.
- Other duties include pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopic procedures, pulmonary rehabilitation, patient/family education and equipment cleaning and processing.
- Tailor all treatment and diagnostic modalities to meet the needs of each specific age group.
- Education:
Graduate of a one-year AMA approved respiratory care program. - Experience:
RRT credential or 5 years post-graduation experience with CRT credential. - Hospitals:
At least 1 year experience with RRT strongly preferred. - Licensure/Certification:
Registered (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed by the Board of Medical Examiners of S.C. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. ACLS, PALS and NRP at hire or within 90 days of employment, if applicable for job assignment. - Source Verification (if applicable):

- High level knowledge in cardiopulmonary physiology.
- Understanding of the theory of operation of respiratory care equipment.
- Maintains competency in clinical application of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
- Effective verbal and telephone communication with co-workers, physicians, nurses, patients, families and the public.
- Infection control techniques and equipment cleaning/processing.
- Ability to effectively use departmental computer systems for order entry and patient charges.
- Daily contact with patients, family members, therapists, physicians, nurses, support staff, allied health workers and outside vendors.
- Work demands/environment:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping; frequent lifting/moving patients; intermittent lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs; continuous finger/hand dexterity; constant reaching; frequent talking or hearing; corrected hearing/vision; exposure to blood and body fluids; potential exposure to infectious materials; moderate noise; may require on-call and weekend/holiday work.
