Position Summary

The Manager of Surgical Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Outpatient Surgery (OBS) facility, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This role plays a critical leadership function in supporting clinical excellence, operational effectiveness, and strategic growth of surgical services.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Management

  • In partnership with the Executive Committee, oversee and sustain ongoing OBS program initiatives, ensuring continued alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage existing project plans, timelines, and deliverables to support long-term program success.
  • Monitor project performance, budgets, and milestones, proactively addressing risks, delays, or resource gaps.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure consistent execution and communication across departments.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance established systems, workflows, and processes within the OBS program.

2. Surgical Facility Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the surgical facility, including operating rooms, pre-operative and post-operative areas, and sterile processing.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Maintain operational readiness and efficiency across all surgical services areas.

3. Patient Care Management

  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and clinical staff to optimize patient care throughout the surgical experience.
  • Monitor patient outcomes, satisfaction, and feedback.
  • Address patient concerns promptly and implement corrective actions as needed.

4. Quality Assurance & Process Improvement

  • Develop, implement, and monitor quality assurance and performance improvement programs.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical best practices and patient safety standards.
  • Identify opportunities for workflow optimization and lead process improvement initiatives.

5. Budgeting & Resource Management

  • Participate in budgeting and financial planning for surgical services.
  • Manage equipment procurement, supply inventory, and expense monitoring.
  • Optimize resource utilization while maintaining quality and safety standards.

6. Innovation & Clinical Advancement

  • Stay current with advancements in ophthalmic surgery and surgical technologies.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of innovative surgical techniques and systems.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and modernization of surgical services.
  • Provide strong leadership to the surgical services team.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Coordinate staffing schedules and coverage.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of surgical staff.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in surgical services management, healthcare operations, or related leadership roles.
  • Experience in ophthalmic or ambulatory surgery settings strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certification (Preferred):

  • RN license, COT, COMT, OSA or other healthcare management certification (preferred, if applicable).
  • Certification in healthcare leadership or surgical services management is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities

  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Process improvement and quality management expertise
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work in a clinical and surgical environment.
  • May require standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
