• Position Summary:
  
  A Standardized Patient (SP) simulates real medical conditions, symptoms, and scenarios in encounters where medical students practice clinical skills, communication, and patient interaction. SPs portray trained cases with typical emotions, behaviors, and patient histories, including physical examinations, and assess learners using specific measurement tools while providing feedback on communication skills.

• The ability to recall case details and simulate all aspects of scenarios, including a patient's chief complaint, history, affect/behavior and physical symptoms, in a standardized, repeatable, and accurate manner.
• Demonstrated ability to recall learner performance and accuracy complete assessment checklists.
• Ability to accept ongoing feedback from a supervisor and incorporate feedback into case simulation.
• Demonstrated ability to be dependable and punctual.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to provide students with constructive feedback regarding their performance, following Standardized Patient Program guidelines.
• Comfortability having repeated physical examinations performed on oneself.
• Comfortability wearing a hospital gown with undergarments underneath while being video recorded.
• Proficient in the use of e-mail for communication and scheduling.
• Ability to have an open and flexible schedule.

• Present case history in response to questioning by the student.
• Undergo a limited physical examination at the student's direction.
• Assist students in developing their communication and clinical skills.
• Assist students in working through difficult emotional situations in a safe environment.
• Must be willing to wear a hospital gown while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video monitor.
• Potentially awkward and/or uncomfortable performance of physical examination maneuvers will be experienced by the SP when examinees perform the physical portion of the exam.
• Must be comfortable with a physical examination of SP’s entire body by medical students and/or physicians.
• Any physical health conditions contradicting the assigned case must be disclosed during employment as an SP.
• The physical demands of this position include standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching and lifting.
