The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Central Michigan University invites applications for a full‑time Lecturer position beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. This is a fixed‑term, academic‑year appointment. Reappointment for subsequent terms will be based on university priorities, departmental staffing needs, funding availability, enrollment trends, and other factors that may arise.
Key
Job Responsibilities:
* Develop course materials and teach lecture and/or laboratory courses as assigned based on departmental instructional needs. Courses may include any 100‑level general chemistry laboratory and/or lecture offerings at CMU, as well as upper‑level undergraduate and graduate laboratory or lecture courses aligned with the candidate's area of expertise.
* Hold regular office hours and serve as a primary point of contact for students.
* Attend required instructional meetings, manage course administration tasks, and communicate with course coordinators, the department chair and associate chair, as well as other departmental and university administrative staff to ensure high‑quality course delivery.
* Attend required training sessions such as lab safety and regulations training.
Required Qualifications
* Master's degree in Chemistry or a closely related field.
* Experience teaching college-level chemistry lectures and/or labs.
* Ability to navigate CMU's digital course management system (Blackboard Ultra) and use Microsoft Office applications.
* Proficiency with discipline‑specific software (e.g., Spartan) and related programs.
* Demonstrated commitment to supporting student success.
* Strong commitment to lab safety rules and regulations.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field.
* Demonstrated success in supervising undergraduate students in research projects.
* Experience developing innovative course materials and assessments that promote student success.
