This is an in-person position based at CMU’s main campus in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Position SummaryThe Central Michigan University College of Education & Human Services is seeking to hire a highly qualified full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty in the dual-accredited undergraduate Interior Design program, with an anticipated start date of August 24, 2026. The position will require teaching undergraduate courses in interior design with expertise in one of the following specialty areas:
- Industry-standard software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Design processes, involving both application and documentation, encompassing the integration of creativity, functional analysis, building systems, and problem-solving within human-centered design studio classes, e.g., special user groups, hospitality, and mixed-use design.
The successful candidate is expected to consistently uphold research endeavors throughout their career. The candidate will participate in activities such as curriculum development; advising undergraduate students; providing service to the department, college, university and community; and maintaining accreditation standards for CIDA and NASAD.
Required Qualifications- Terminal degree (Ph.D., M.F.A., M. Arch., or equivalent) with at least one graduate degree in Interior Design or a related field at the time employment begins; ABD and postgraduate candidates will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, however, first reappointment will be contingent upon degree completion.
- NCIDQ certification or progress toward completion within one year.
- Evidence of teaching experience.
- Experience with and competency in industry-standard software.
- Evidence of excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Evidence of college-level teaching effectiveness.
- Evidence of successful scholarly and creative activities.
- Competency in industry-standard software Revit and AutoCAD.
- WELL AP, LEED AP, AAHID, CAPS certification or other professional certifications.
- Previous experience in interior design professional practice.
- Demonstrated effective undergraduate advising.
- Affiliation with professional organizations in the discipline.
