Position: Nurse Assistant - Telemetry 4S

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), contributes to the delivery of patient-centered care through: performance of selected day-to-day patient care activities; maintenance of an environment that is functionally and aesthetically conducive to patient well-being; demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies; and interacts with patients considering their developmental, age-specific, and cultural/spiritual preferences.

Hours per pay period: 72 hours

Schedule: 7p–7:30a

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Always introduce self and explain care role.
  • Receive report from appropriate RN. Perform specific patient care interventions as delegated by the RN to identify/attain treatment goals.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being.
  • Prepare patient room for arrival; assist in transfers and/or discharge of patients.
  • Orient patient/family/visitors to patient room, unit, waiting area and facilities.
  • Assist patient/family in the use of hospital equipment (telephone, lights, television).
  • Make occupied and unoccupied beds; collect and dispose of soiled linen.
  • Answer call lights and telephones; exemplify high levels of customer service.
  • Perform safety checks and observe hospital safety guidelines; document as required.
  • Perform routine competency tasks such as oxygen therapy and pulse oximetry.
  • Follow and adhere to all policies and procedures including infection control and use of PPE when in contact with body fluids or isolation status as ordered.
  • Assist patient with menu selection or assist care partner in doing so.
  • Distribute nourishments and order late trays.
  • Assist patient and care partner with ADLs including bathing, showering, toileting, feeding, positioning, turning, transferring, and ambulating.
  • Record/calculates intake/output and care interventions in the designated area of the chart or EMR.
  • Perform all activities related to routine capillary blood glucose monitoring.
  • Apply support/orthopedic devices such as TED hose and SCDs.
  • Participate in efforts to maintain patient safety through appropriate safety devices and interventions as directed by the RN.
  • Check/restock unit’s routine and emergency equipment/supplies.
  • Collect/sent/transport labeled specimens to the lab.
  • May discontinue peripheral IV lines as directed by RN.
  • Obtain routine vital signs and temperature; document in the EMR.
  • Assist the patient with coughing, deep breathing, incentive spirometry, and oral suctioning.
  • Apply warm/cold therapies as directed by RN.
  • Administer enemas and document in the EMR as designated by the RN.
  • Place patients on monitors/telemetry and maintain lead placement as directed by RN.
  • Assist in preparing the body following death.
  • Seek out RN for additional assignments.
  • Document patient care rendered; answer phone and communicate messages.
  • Seek ongoing learning experiences by attending in-services, continuing education, and mandatory programs; participate in quality management and process improvement activities and staff meetings as delegated by the RN, Clinical Manager and/or Unit Director.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Formal education or training in a medical careers program OR enrollment in nursing school OR two or more years’ experience in a Patient Care Associate/Nurse Assistant role
  • BLS card from AHA required before start date (valid at least 60 days beyond start date).

Preferred:

  • CNA Certification
  • Basic EMT Certification
  • LPN License
