OverviewThe Structural Heart & Aortic Operating Unit at Medtronic focuses on developing and delivering innovative, minimally invasive solutions for the treatment of heart valve diseases and other structural heart conditions. This includes transcatheter and surgical therapies designed to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. The unit’s portfolio encompasses products such as transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement and repair devices, as well as technologies for left atrial appendage management and other structural heart interventions.
The role is remote from a Medtronic site, with requirement to reside within the territory and to drive to multiple accounts in the region. A valid driver’s license is essential, and travel is expected to be up to 70% to support collaboration and project success.
Principal Medical Science Technical Field Engineer – Aortic. This position serves as a resource in Aortic, providing expertise and leadership in physician education, clinical evidence interpretation, and Medtronic employee education. Responsibilities include maintaining extensive knowledge of clinical and scientific data for our products and engaging with key thought leaders, professional societies, and payers. The role supports field activities related to growing existing products and bringing new products to market, and provides feedback to product development, quality, education, and marketing teams.
Responsibilities- Off/on-label requests for medical information: receive and respond to on-label and unsolicited off-label requests per Corporate Policy.
- Identify issues and trends from on/off-label requests and communicate to internal stakeholders to inform strategic decision‑making or further investigation.
- Drive education for safe and effective use of our products through comprehensive, evidence-based responses to requests.
- Medical Intelligence: gather feedback from external stakeholders (KOLs, clinician societies, patient advocacy groups) to inform R&D priorities and strategic clinical study plans.
- Strategic Partner: build and strengthen relationships across Medtronic to support collaborative solutions that leverage our sales and service teams.
- Builds Alliances: maintain high-trust relationships with key customers based on technical expertise and clinical evidence.
- Strategic Site Engagement: collaborate across functions to develop and implement site engagement plans supporting scientific partnerships; case support for complex procedural approaches to aortic therapy; support clinical study cases and trials as directed by study teams.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree; a minimum of 4 years direct hospital or clinic experience, or a minimum of 2 years with an advanced degree. - Nice to Have: degree in biomedical engineering or nursing; vascular OR hospital/clinic experience; experience teaching medical personnel and support staff; strong medical terminology knowledge; excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; proficiency with Microsoft tools and ; ability to meet vendor credentialing requirements.
Remote position not located at a physical Medtronic site; candidate must reside in the territory and travel to multiple accounts. 70% travel expectation. A valid driver’s license is essential.
