Overview

Virax Biolabs Group Limited is an innovative biotechnology company focused on immune-response detection technologies. The company is developing its flagship Virax Immune™ profiling platform, aimed at supporting the development of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) assays for chronic and post-infectious conditions, including Long Covid, Lyme disease and ME/CFS. In parallel, Virax Biolabs is expanding Immune Select, a portfolio of products and services supporting immunology and clinical research.

We are seeking an R&D Scientist to join our team at Bio City Glasgow. In this role, you will design, execute, and interpret experiments supporting the development of Virax Immune IVD assays. The position combines assay development with exploratory immunology studies and offers the opportunity to contribute directly to technologies being developped for future diagnostic application.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and optimise immunological assays to evaluate adaptive immune responses, primarily using ELISpot/Fluoro Spot, with complementary use of microscopy and flow cytometry.
  • Apply confocal or advanced fluorescence microscopy to support assay characterisation, mechanism-of-action studies, or exploratory investigations.
  • Plan and execute experimental workflows, troubleshoot technical issues, and iterate protocols to ensure robustness and reproducibility.
  • Analyse and interpret experimental data, draw conclusions and communicate findings through presentations and reports.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, oversee reagent stock levels, and ensure compliance with laboratory safety and quality requirements.
What your background should like
  • PhD in immunology or related life-science discipline, or an MSc with several years of relevant experience
  • Ability to work independently in a laboratory setting and take ownership of experimental work
  • Strong understanding of T cell– and B cell–mediated immune responses
  • Hands-on experience with confocal fluorescence microscopy is a strong advantage
  • Ability to critically evaluate experimental data and troubleshoot technical challenges.
  • Excellent organizational and teamwork abilities
