DEPARTMENT/SITE: Special Services QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree, Certificate of Clinical Competence and Mississippi Teacher’s Certificate with proper endorsement REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education Services Coordinator, Superintendent SUPERVISES: Students JOB GOAL: To facilitate progress in speech and language areas for students K-12 throughout the district.
Performance Responsibilities- Identify, evaluate, and remediate any disabilities in the areas of articulation, language, voice, or fluency.
- Identify and assess any disabilities in the area of hearing.
- Coordinate activities with the regular education or special education teacher to ensure a quality education for each student.
- Work cooperatively with staff in planning speech-language remediation activities.
- Conduct therapy in accordance with the policies of the state accrediting body and the local school board.
- Prepare therapy plans and monitor the progress of each student.
- Maintain contact with parents to keep them updated on their child’s progress.
- Initiate evaluation procedures for those students needing services.
- Attend IEP meeting and prepare documentation appropriate for the child’s IEP file.
- Monitor supplies and notify appropriate personnel when materials are needed.
- Provide a positive role model for student, parents, and citizens of the community.
- All other duties as assigned by supervision.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days. Salary for this position shall be commensurate with the years of experience as determined under the policies and procedures of the Moss Point School District and in accordance with the pay scale.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Trustee’s policy on evaluation of District personnel.
