As an Exercise Specialist, you will work closely with the Exercise Physiologist to design, implement, supervise and evaluate outcomes of exercise therapy given to rehabilitating patients to restore proper physical functioning and facilitate independence per the standards, policies, and practices of Samaritan Healthcare. The Exercise Specialist will collaborate with the cardiac rehab team in providing exercise guidance, individualized exercise prescriptions, and risk factor education for patients in our Phase 2 and Phase 3 programs.
Responsibilities- Collaboratively develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate exercise programs for patients.
- Provide education and counseling on cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, risk factors, and home exercise.
- Accurately measure resting and exercise blood pressure and interpret basic rhythms.
- Lead strength training exercises.
- Stay current with new exercises, techniques, developments, and equipment through continuing education, conferences, seminars, professional societies, and journals.
- Bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field.
- Preferred American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise Test Technologist/Exercise Specialist Certification.
- One year of experience in cardiac rehabilitation, including developing and progressing individualized exercise prescriptions.
- Experience with risk factor modification counseling.
- Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia/12‑lead EKG Interpretation course or equivalent experience.
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and arrhythmia identification.
- Basic knowledge of clinical exercise physiology, preventative and rehabilitative cardiology (including nutrition, risk factor, and behavior modification strategies), and emergency/safety procedures.
- ACLS certification within six months of hire.
- Occasional or prolonged standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and pulling while providing patient care.
- Manual dexterity, ability to lift/carry up to 20 pounds (supplies and equipment).
- Good reading eyesight: able to see clearly 20 feet or more.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients, and the public.
