This position is responsible for overseeing Environmental Services within the organization. The role develops personnel from selection through orientation and ongoing staff development, writes policies and procedures, and maintains effective communication between staff and the healthcare organization to facilitate high‑quality delivery of Environmental Services. The position benchmarks all services, conducts quality improvement studies and improves services in a cost‑efficient manner.
This is a full‑time salary exempt position.
DIRECT REPORTS:
I. Relational Leadership – Make positive effective relationships a priority. Develop relationships through respect, open communication, trust and partnership, serve the region, value patients, families, employees, community, physicians and partners, participate in community events, represent Samaritan in professional associations, strengthen relationships, and promote wellbeing.
II. Strategic – Champion the vision and strategies of Samaritan. Involve in planning, inspire alignment, set and achieve goals, build partnerships, and maintain consistency and accountability.
III. Operations – Effectively oversee and direct day‑to‑day operations; focus on efficiency, staffing, patient care, workflow, resources, current professional knowledge, project and process management, and communication.
IV. Human Resources – Inspire employees, create a culture of open communication, respect, teamwork and accountability; attract, develop, and retain talent; evaluate competency, employee relations, recognition, coaching, discipline, expectations, communication, engagement, safety, compliance and feedback.
V. Finance – Manage the overall financial health of Samaritan through budgeting, optimization, audit goals, resource management, cost containment, revenue opportunities and operational review.
VI. Performance Improvement, Safety and Service – Inspire and assure staff in performance improvement, patient safety and service to others. Align with patient care, regulatory compliance, data analysis, best practice, committees, outcome improvement, leading change and achieving standards.
VII. Technical / Professional Knowledge – Achieve and maintain a level of competence to effectively and safely perform all duties and responsibilities.
Education- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related business field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Two (2) years in a managerial position.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years in environmental services or similar industry with acute care healthcare emphasis.
- Prior experience with DOH, DNV or TJC compliance surveys preferred.
- Experience managing MSDS process preferred.
- Prior oversight of Environmental Services preferred.
- Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) preferred or Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) preferred.
- Computer skills (Word, Excel) and prior inventory system experience a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Critical thinking, independent problem solving, logical decision making.
- Accountability, safe judgment, legal and ethical compliance.
- Customer/patient care across entire age continuum.
- Safe work practices and policies; MSDS, infection control, fire, disaster, lifting and body mechanics.
- Professional manner, appearance and personal accountability.
- Work primarily in an air‑conditioned office with moderate physical activity during departmental rounding and huddles.
- Medium physical effort – lift, carry up to 25 lbs.
- Effective verbal and written communication with healthcare professionals, patients and public.
